Sudi, with the vision of her sister Simmin Taleghani, co founded II Sisters Mfg. Corp. The many designs the sisters have introduced since 1994 have been well received by retailers in the US and Canada. You may have seen some of her work at the Legion of Honor gift store. And you can view all of their designs and even download the 2012 catalog at their website.
Sudi says, "The two techniques I use to create each design on Spun, Fused, and Mouth Blown Glass are Reverse painting and gilding. In gilding, I apply a clear varnish first, then layer the gold, silver or copper on the back of the glass. It is then sealed and goes into the kiln for several hours to set. Reverse painting is where all of the art is also done on the back of the glass while visualizing what the finished product looks like from the front. This is a very time consuming process, but well worth it. After all of the artwork is done again, the piece is treated with heat and a clear coat.
Here are Sudi and Simmin with co-worker Rosa, in their Pumpkin Festival booth. Thank you to the whole Taleghani family for sharing their gilded tableware with us in the Made on the Coast locals' block.
